Information on Modules > Bound States

Description:

This module requires access to a computer running the application Bound States, by Physics Education Research Group of Kansas State University as a part of their "Visual Quantum Mechanics" project. The current version of this and other project software can be viewed at their website with a browser using a MacroMedia Shockwave plugin. Ztek expects to have a commercial version of the "Visual Quantum Mechanics" package available in September 2001. Check their website for information starting in August. Links to these sites can be found in the "Supplementals" box below.

An older version of Bound States in standalone form for Macintosh platform can be downloaded below. The software described in this module is the Macintosh version. The Windows version has a slightly different look than the Macintosh version, but the program works the same way.

The software numerically solves the Time Independent Schroedinger equation and displays the wavefunction for an electron of any energy in a user determined one dimensional potential. Common potentials (finite square wells, finite harmonic oscillators, etc.), with adjustable parameters are provided. Eigenvalues and eigenfunctions can be found and displayed.
